Sanirang Alpine Networks‚ will begin the 2nd Basic Intermediate Rock Climbing School Program of the season Saturday, May 04 ~ June 01‚ 2013. The climbing school meets every Saturday at various artificial and natural climbing facilities and crags for five consecutive weeks.
This program is for those who climb regularly and feel comfortable and confident with the skills already learned in both the Basic Beginner and Advanced Beginner Climbing School Programs or have received equivalent level courses. The course is especially for those who want to learn more, deepen their knowledge, skills and experience and also want to play a more active role in multi-pitch climbing scenarios. SAN also always welcomes those who have already gone through this program, but would like to freshen up, review and practice their skills some more. We also recommend that participants feel comfortable with multi-pitch scenarios on moderate graded routes in difficulty. The course focuses primarily on teaching participants to learn the multitude of skills and techniques helpful to making the activity of multi-pitch climbing safe and enjoyable.
Aside from reviewing all of the previously learned skills sets in both the Beginner and Advanced Beginner School programs, participants will learn how to tie-off and escape the belay in both single and multi-pitch scenarios, be able to construct and clean abseil stations, learn how to safely lead abseil along with practicing rope-retrieval efficiency principles. And most excitingly, get to do a lot of multi-pitch climbing!
Hiking approach times vary from between 45 minutes to an hour and fifteen minutes depending on crag destination for that session and overall group speed. Approach trails to crags are typically steep and very direct in style, This is a fantastic way to experience and see some of Korea’s more unique outdoor locations along with getting into great shape by the end of the fifth week.
After every climbing sessions‚ all are welcome to join together for Dutch-pay food and beer with your instructors and peers. The final graduation summit climb will be followed by graduation Dutch-pay dinner/beer ceremony where each participant will get a free SAN t-shirt and climbing school certificate of completion.

April 27 ~ May 25‚ 2013 – Meet at DaeYaMi Station Exit #1 off Line #4 7:30a.m. Other meeting locations for each week will vary and are based on predicted activity at the artificial facilities. Locations will likely include, Suyu Station Exit #8, Samsung Station Exit #3, Bokjeong Station, Gwanak Station and Ttukeseom.
Registration & Payment Confirmation
The climbing school program costs only 450‚000KRW plus the 10% Korean VAT or 45,000KRW and/or 495,000KRW total per each individual. Participants may pay via Paypal or the SAN Hana Bank account.
For those paying via Paypal, the difference in current exchange rates is not calculated(eg. 495,000KRW =495.00USD). Paypal payments must also include the addtional Paypal 4.2% or 20.79USD transaction fee or 515.790USD total. We strongly encourage clients to make all deposits via the Korean banking systems to save on the exchange rate and Paypal transaction fees.

SAN Climbing Gear
Sanirang Alpine Networks understands how difficult buying gear in Korea can be. We also understand how expensive the necessary basic gear can be in order to learn how to climb, so because of this, SAN rents all of the necessary gear required to join the Climbing School from head to toe at the cheap and reasonable rates. Necessary gear includes helmet, climbing slippers, harness, and belaying set. Rent complete gear set for 20,000KRW. Individual gear rental rates are as follows: helmet, harness and belaying sets rent for 5,000KRW each and climbing slippers rents for 10,000KRW each. Sleeping bags may also be rented for 15,000KRW, mattress for 5,000KRW and bivvy sac for 5,000KRW per night for the camping graduation climb. All clients are encouraged to bring or buy their own gear!
Rain or Shine Policy
Location and routes are tentative and subject to change depending on weather conditions‚ climbing traffic and other factors. Sessions are never cancelled; however‚ in the event of deteriorating or very poor weather conditions and SAN deems the conditions to be unsafe‚ a pleasant day hike along one of the many hiking tracks in the BukHanSan National Park or a technical skills workshop indoors will be held at an indoor climbing or bouldering gym where additional bouldering and sport climbing techniques and skills will be taught.
Refund Policy
An initial non-refundable 50% deposit or 247,500KRW is required to reserve a spot. Cancellations must be made one week prior to the start date of the intended and scheduled climbing school program in order to receive a complete transfer refund; otherwise, the deposit is completely forfeited to SAN. In the event that a full-payment of deposit has been made and the participant cancels within the week of the first scheduled climbing school session, 50% of their full payment deposit will be forfeited and the remaining 50% will be refunded via transfer. Pro-rated rates and refunds are not rewarded for the climbing school program in the event that the participant knowingly or unknowingly misses any one of the scheduled outings
*Insurance coverage is inclusive and applies to all courses, guided climbs and climbing school programs.
**Late-comers are welcome to join as late as the second week of instruction; however‚ there is no pro-rated discount from the original course cost and deposits are due no later than Wednesday before the intended Sunday of joining up as late as the second Sunday session. The cost remains 450‚000KRW plus 10% VAT or 495,000KRW total and the additional 4.2% Paypal service charge for paying via PP. Despite joining late‚ the remaining sessions allow plenty of time to make up for the skills missed in the first session.
